Day 2- Niagara Falls

Day 2- We all woke up early and took off for Niagara Falls. Its a two hour drive to the Falls from Grandpas house. It was just far enough for the girls to go a little nuts in the car- but who could blame them we had just driven 8 hours the day before.... even i was going a little nuts. On the way we saw this very nice RV that had caught fire.... so sad.
We stopped at a local place to eat lunch. The Silo is a burger joint or as the people in line called it _ a place for guy food. It was featured on Man vs. food, a popular show that is on right now so we thought we would give it a try. The food was alright but it couldn't beat our view. We sat on a covered balcony overlooking a large river. We enjoyed our food and the perfect cool breeze. We even saw the Black Pearl.
Our view from the balcony.

We arrived at the falls and walked a short distance to a open and beautiful park. The river flowed along the park and you could look over the railing at the massive river falling down below you. We walked around the park for the day and then headed to the Maid of the Mist.

After standing in line for an hour in the sun- Yuck! We embarked on the most awe inspiring boat ride EVER. The boat took us so close to the falls that the mist was so deep you couldn't see anything else. There were moments were I was nervous because the enormous falls looked like they would swallow up this tiny boat and we would never be seen again. It somehow made you smile and terrified all at the same time. Libby squealed with delight as she quickly became soaked through from the heavy waters pounding around us. She yelled to Philly " I want to go in the water, dad" " let me in" to which I responded" Phil you better hold on to her with your life" as I watched the water around the boat churn and whirlpool around us..... YIKES, a mothers worst nightmare. The Maid was an absolute must see. By the time we got off we were all more than ready to head back to the car and get home. We stopped at a few little souvenir stands and such on the way to our car and then headed back to Grandpa's house.
This is the elevator tower that lowers you down to the bottom of the falls

We followed a beautiful sunset across the sky as we drove home that evening.
Just as we were getting home the sun was setting along the horizon. What a wonderful day and what a full and amazing trip !

  1. I'm glad you got to do the Maid of the Mist ride. Too bad Phil didn't have a poncho too. ;) And I know what you mean about a mom's nightmare! Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us.

  3. It looks like it was an awesome trip! I'm so glad you went, even though I know it's tough traveling with little ones. I can't believe they cut out the Lamanite dancers, that was one of the coolest parts in the pageant! Thanks for sharing your adventures.

  4. What a wonderful trip.... I cried a little as I remembered the same feeling at the sacred grove. The first time I was there I even took a picture of the "skeeter" bugs in the little creek, in the grass. Thinking how the boy Joseph must have played with them..
The last time I just left everyone and stood on the back porch wondering what he must have been thinking as he left home.... Definitely a wonderful experience...
Phil did make a cute Lamanite. I was lucky enough to see the pageant that year..
